This recipe takes two beloved comfort foods and combines them into a mouthwatering creation that captures the essence of both. Imagine biting into perfectly melted cheese, seasoned ground beef, and all your favorite taco toppings sandwiched between crispy, buttery bread.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)
1 tablespoon taco seasoning
1/4 cup water
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
4 slices of bread (sourdough, whole wheat, or Texas toast)
4 tablespoons butter (softened)
Shredded lettuce
Diced tomatoes
Sour cream or Greek yogurt
Sliced jalapeños
Guacamole
Instructions
In a medium skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.
Drain excess fat if necessary, then stir in the taco seasoning and water. Allow it to simmer until the water evaporates and the mixture thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
In another skillet or on a griddle, heat over medium heat. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
Flip the bread over and add a generous portion of the taco meat to one slice, then sprinkle with shredded cheese.
Top with your chosen taco toppings before placing another slice of bread on top to create a sandwich, butter side facing out.
Cook the sandwich for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
Once cooked, remove from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing in half.
