A crispy, savory indulgence that embodies the essence of southern comfort food, perfect as a side dish or snack.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound Fresh okra
1 cup Cornmeal
1/2 cup All-purpose flour
1 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Onion powder
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
Wash the okra thoroughly and dry it completely with a clean kitchen towel. Cut the okra into 1/2-inch slices.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to combine.
Add the sliced okra to the bowl and toss until each piece is evenly coated with the flour mixture. Make sure to shake off any excess coating.
Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot (about 350°F).
Carefully add the coated okra to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried okra from the skillet and transfer it to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serve warm as a side dish or snack, and enjoy your Old Fashioned Pan Fried Okra!
