A golden, flaky pastry enveloping a rich, flavor-packed mixture of sausage and caramelized onions, inspired by classic French onion dip flavor. These crispy pastry snacks are not just an appetizer; they are the epitome of comfort food.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 batch homemade puff pastry (about 1 pound)
1 pound ground sausage (Italian or your favorite flavor)
1 large onion, finely chopped (about 1 cup)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère or Swiss)
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil and sauté the chopped onion until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
In a large bowl, combine the ground sausage, cooled onion-garlic mixture, shredded cheese, and fresh thyme. Season with salt and pepper. Mix until well blended.
Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into rectangles, roughly 4x6 inches.
Place a generous tablespoon of the sausage mixture onto one side of each rectangle. Fold the pastry over and seal the edges by pressing with a fork. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
