Description
A savory family favorite delight combining homemade stromboli dough with ham and cheese.
Ingredients
Scale:
- 3 ½ cups All-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) Active dry yeast
- 1 cup Warm water (110°F)
- 2 tablespoons Olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Honey or sugar
- 2 cups Deli ham, sliced
- 2 cups Shredded cheese (mozzarella or your choice)
- 1 cup Optional vegetables (spinach, bell peppers, etc.), chopped
- 1 egg + 1 tablespoon water for Egg wash
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, honey (or sugar), and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, then add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 12x16 inches.
- Layer the ham, cheese, and any optional vegetables in the center of the dough, leaving about 1 inch of space on the edges.
- Fold the sides over the filling and pinch to seal the edges securely. Place the stromboli seam-side down on the baking sheet.
- Brush the top with the egg wash for a golden finish. Cut a few slits on top to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
