A delightful combination of sweet and savory flavors, perfect for brunch or a cozy breakfast.
Ingredients
Scale:
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 cup Unsalted butter (cold)
- 1/4 cup Cold water
- 1 cup Apples (peeled and diced)
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
- 4 ounces Cream cheese (softened)
- 1 Egg (for egg wash)
- 2 tablespoons Cinnamon sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the cold water, mixing until the dough comes together. Do not overwork it.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- While the dough chills, prepare the filling by mixing the diced apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar in a bowl. Set aside.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into squares, approximately 4x4 inches.
- Place a spoonful of cream cheese in the center of each square, followed by a generous scoop of the apple mixture.
- Fold the corners of the pastry square over the filling to form a pocket, pinching the seams to seal.
- Place the pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the danishes.
- Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and flaky. Enjoy warm!
